5 Things (Part 2) - By Right, I Should Still Be A Bachelor

Just got a email from the wife and she pointed out to me that we will begin our 10th year of marriage next year.

"Wow!" was just about the most intelligent response that I could muster then.

So after walking down the path for past 9 years, I thought I use this blog entry as a pause in the walk in order to look back at the road trodden.

Like a professional footballer or tennis player, my "Career (Of Love)" was short but intensively hectic from the age of 16 to 26. In it, there were 2 serious girlfriends (excluding the wife) and countless number of those in the "Others" category.

However, before anyone starts getting the wrong idea that I was some ferocious predator, let it be known that I have my fair share of crash-and-burns and so I say that the score was pretty even then. Problem is that people only remember the bad juicy parts and hence the "Dangerous" reputation" back in university (Right, Pam?)

Haiz...

So naturally everybody starts assuming that I am the "chee hong kia" that will never be tied down. Very much like Uncle Charlie in "Two And A Half Man" as it appeared that I have all the makings of one. Let's see, a pretty decent job, a nice set of wheels, nice bachelor apartment, club memberships, blah blah blah... But like I said, this is just the exterior appearance and does, in no way, represent the person that I truly am within.

Ok Ok, so for the sake of discussion, let's assume that I am Big Bad Barracuda. Then I tell you that this is a clinical classic case of karma for the biggest fish in the sea is often the very first one to kena harpooned.

And so the good news of the wedding came as a shock to everybody and close friends who "knew my kuan" (Translate: "knew my type"), thought it was either a) talking while intoxicated, b) mega practical joke or c) shot gun case. Nobody believed it initially. Not even my own folks. TMD.... -_-"

The real question behind all this would be "Why?" Why did I take the leap of faith at such an early point in my life as there so yet "so many other fishes in the sea" or "so many other trees in the forest"?

The answer is simple. She was the right one. Period. Besides, if I miss this chance, I may never get another and the risk of regretting it for the rest of my life was just too big a wager. To take a cheesy line off the movies, Carpé diem.

At times, I asked myself would it be better if she was say... 9 years younger? I would definitely say "Yes" as it would mean less time pressure to get married (kids!) and we could both enjoy a few more years savouring the sweetness of courtship, instead of being bogged down with the prospect of planning a family so soon.

As someone once told me, this type of thing is fated one. We are of the same age and it was meant to be. Do not mistake me for being unhappy. I am merely doing a bit of "What If" type of wondering.

A guy can do a bit of wondering, right? No?

Actually, given the way you sound (both on your blog and voice postings), it really seems like you're the swinging bachelor woman magnet type. Guess in your case, its really appearances can deceive...

Vandice: You know, I get that a lot but I am used to it already. I have come to a stage where I no longer bother to change other people's misconception about me. It is a losing battle as such people are endless.

I let my actions speak for themselves and if these people don't take the extra step to get to know me better, than so be it. I also LPPL. :)

Nadnut: Yup, it will be 10 happy years with the harpoon still sticking. (",)

how long did you 2 date for? I've already been with The Girlfriend for 5 years, almost 6, and by your age we would have been together for..21 years? Heh, kinda scary as i think about it. You and I are the opposite man. Your friends said that you'll never be tied down, my friends keep saying i'll be the first to marry.

ahdokboy: Er... agar agar 2 years? Fate this type of thing hor, hard to say one. Some people buy 1 time TOTO strike already. Others buy their whole lifetime also never kena.
I guess what I am trying to say is don't try to analyse these things lah. Go with the flow and see where it takes you.

mihuatang: Alamak, I just wondering out loud only lah, can?
Anyway, we are, or at least I am thinking of doing something but at this stage, it is still too early to reveal anything. Sekali I jinxed it! Stay tuned....
