I just finished* ripping the last of my compact discs and converting them into MP3s. A project that took me over a year to finish, granted that I had been doing it at a leisurely pace.
The headache to that was wondering how to dispose of the 2 big boxes full of CDs? It seemed like a waste to just chuck them into the garbage bin. Fortunately, I managed to find a cafe owner friend who would gladly take them off my hands. I'd bet all my jazz and moods CDs will bring him better business and elevate his cafe's status in a Spitland where the only music we hear are the "mm tzz mm tzz diu diu diu diu" techno trance tunes.
It seemed only yesterday when I was lugging my entire CD collection over to Spitland to keep me company. I remembered how I had to get rid of the CD jewel cases, flat-pack the CD cover sheets and get one of those CD-R tubs to store all the discs. Upon reaching Spitland, buy the jewel cases locally and "reassemble" the CDs.
I didn't have an MP3 player in the early days until I got the 6GB Creative Jukebox which at that time was still in adequate to house all the songs under one roof. I only embarked on this project when I got the 60Gb iPod video and the rest they say is history.
Anyway, as at now, I have 4,068* songs (17.7 days) occupying a total space of 15.6Gb with backups on the iPod itself as well on another PC.
It looks fairly unlikely that I will be add more songs to the collection coz for one, I have no place to buy CD here in Spitland. Perhaps the occasion spree in Hong Kong or back home but otherwise, this is very much it.
* While I think I have all my CDs up here in Spitland, I have a nagging feeling that there may still be a few residual discs left behind in Singapore. Reminder to self: Bring up the rest of the CDs during my next trip, if any.

Peanut Girl: Yes I am aware that is you. The CD was accumulated over the years since the late 80s. In a way, I have stopped buying CD since there is nowhere to buy them in the first place. So it isn't a bottomless pit after all.

Zhebin: I listen to English songs only and over there, they are quite behind as far as keeping current with the billboard charts.

Barffie: I'm afraid you are a tad too late coz I "donated" them to the cafe already. Besides, they are all in Spitland. I doubt if I want to lug them back to SG.
